Shoe of the Day

This little darling is called "Tea and Cakes".  Totally feminine and totally 1950 meets 2011.  There's something dainty and cutesy about this shoe that's so unexpected. Is it the white with blue floral print? Or the sweet little heel?  Whatever it is, pair this with a pair of jeans, capris, or just go all out and wear a cutesy dress and hat with gloves. Ok, not the hat and gloves. That's a bit much, I think.

Shoe of the Day

Would you rock these? I would try. The funky brown wedge heel is intriguing. Is it comfortable? I don't know, but the turquoise print allows the funk factor to turn it down a little. Just enough to invite the pretty and romantic in to stay for a while and turn it back up. Wait - a funky, crazy, yet romantic shoe? Yes, I'm intrigued.

Dumb Azz Criminal of the Day

Man makes police mugshot statement with 'F*** You' written on forehead

Who puts a tattoo on his forehead with the words "F*ck You" on it? This dumb azz...read on.

http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/869189-man-makes-police-mugshot-statement-with-f-you-written-on-forehead

Brooks was arrested for burglary, forgery and receiving stolen property and his tattoo gave a fairly clear message to the police.
Patrick Brooks fuck you forehead tattoo mugshot
He was picked up by the Redding police department and is currently being held without bail in Shasta county jail, after it was revealed he had violated the terms of his parole for a previous conviction.
While Brooks' tattoo is probably endearing him to other inmates in prison, not everyone has been quite so lucky with their choices of body art. Last year, a mugshot was released of naive radio listener David Jonathan Winkelman, with him displaying his rather unfortunate tattoo. Winkelman and his stepbrother, Richard Goddard, had the logo for hard-rock radio station KORB tattooed on their foreheads after a presenter claimed there was a six-figure sum up for grabs for anyone who did so.
After hearing the offer, the gullible duo headed straight to a body artist, who etched the permanent reminder of their naivety on their faces.Staff at the radio station told the pair it was actually a practical joke when they arrived to collect their prize money, and their mistake was revealed after Winkelman was arrested on a misdemeanour charge and his mugshot made its way onto the web.

OH MAMA! These beautiful bronze babies from Giuseppe Zanotti are so rich and expensive looking, because that's because they are rich and expensive. At a wopping $1,630., you'd have to have it like that to buy these shoes. Or not. I'm just saying...I'd buy them if my pockets allowed. But for now, I'll just continue to stare and salivate.

Dumb Azz Criminal of the Day

Driver smokes joint at police stop...
Who does that? This dumb azz.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/story/2011/07/11/ns-driver-marijuana-police-checkpoint.html

A brazen driver shocked police by lighting up a joint at a traffic checkpoint in Yarmouth, N.S.
RCMP were conducting a routine vehicle inspection last Wednesday afternoon when the smell of marijuana caught their attention.
Officers walked over to a car with its windows rolled down. Inside was a man casually smoking a joint.
"I honestly don't know what to think," RCMP traffic services Cpl. Andy Hamilton told CBC News.
"It doesn't make any sense to a police officer or the person on the street. You know, this person is obviously a user, a consumer, but why he decided to light up within eyesight of the officers is anybody's guess."
Officers spent an hour trying to determine if the man was impaired. He passed the test, but they charged him with possession of marijuana.
"It appears that this was the one and only joint that was smoked," Hamilton said.
Fortunately for the man, stupidity is not against the law, he added.
"It's probably a good thing that it isn't. We wouldn't be able to write enough tickets."

Fiercely Fabulous: Zoe Saldana

 I think what impressed me most about Zoe was the following quote;

"When I go to the D.R., the press in Santo Domingo always asks, "¿Qué te consideras, dominicana o americana?" (What do you consider yourself, Dominican or American?) I don't understand it, and it's the same people asking the same question. So I say, time and time again, "Yo soy una mujer negra." ("I am a black woman.") [They go,] "Oh, no, tú eres trigueñita." ("Oh no, you are 'dark skinned'") I'm like, "No! Let's get it straight, yo soy una mujer negra." ("I am a black woman.")"

Even though she clearly isn't a "black woman" she understands that because of her dark skin it's what Hollywood will always see first in her when they consider her for a role. Its a shame, but its obviously made her who she is today.  And who is she you may ask well read on...

Zoë Yadira Saldana was born June 19, 1978 in Passaic NJ to a Puerto Rican mother and Dominican father. Her family relocated to the Dominican Republic when she was ten years old.

Shoe of the Day

It's still hot outside, and living in the concrete jungle, these sandals fit right in with my urban lifestyle. I was never a fan of spending a lot of money on sandals, because to me, they use less fabric and material. It never made sense to spend over $100 on something like that. I'd rather save my funds for a hot stiletto. Perhaps I shouldn't rationalize, for these sandals are totally me, and I don't know where else to find them for cheaper (Amazon maybe???). The braided straps and rope-like design provides the kind of detail that makes the price easier to swallow. Besides, green is my favorite color. What's a girl to do? (buy 'em!)

Fiercely Fabulous: Tilda Swinton

Actress Tilda Swinton covers the August 2011 issue of W magazine, I first laid eyes on Tilda in the movie "Constantine" as the angel Gabriel. This woman is beyond breathtaking in my opinion, given lately I've had a thing visually for androgyny so I could be bias. I've always enjoyed her portrayal of every character she has ever taken on. In her interview she discusses why she chooses the role she's played in Hollywood.

Lynn Hirschberg: Your latest film, We Need to Talk About Kevin, in which you play the mother of a violent, disturbed boy, is one of the most emotionally unsettling movies I have ever seen. Halfway through the film, sometime around the moment when it became apparent that this kid was going to methodically destroy everything around him, I wanted to run. But I was glued to the screen—mostly because your character, who is troubled, quietly enraged, and often unsympathetic, was riveting. In films, mothers are mostly characterized by their love and affection for their children. It takes courage to challenge the sainted idea of maternal perfection. Did that scare you?

HOT MENZ - VAN JONES

I love a man who's not only sexy and handsome, but smart and passionate as well. Meet Van Jones. This activist and champion of "Green Living" is my future baby-daddy. I just hope yall know that. Then again, guys like him don't remain single. Van is probably married with children, living in some suburban neighborhood then travels to the ghetto each morning to be...well....active. POWER TO THE PEOPLE! All jokes aside, Van Jones is an impressive human being. Currently the Senior Fellow at the Center For American Progress, Van Jones served as a Green Jobs Advisor for President Obama, and he also authored a book titled, "The Green Collar Economy."

(unless of course, you have a job where you cannot wear this type of sandal, then well...I guess you're on your own). For everyone else, this is the sandal for you! I love the blue and red shades found in the beading, which makes this darling flat so chic, yet subtle. The colors pop, and makes it easy to accessorize with a cute pair of shorts or a sweet dress. Shoe of the Day

These shoes are strange. Well, the heel is strange. I'm having a hard time deciding whether I think it's more of a shoe to look at or a shoe I could wear. I'm also on the fence whether or not I think the shoe is cute, funky, or just plain weird. I love weird, but this...I just don't know.

Finger Length is Linked to Penis Length? I'm Checking Hands.

Anyone willing to do a separate study? We all know Asian men really aren't the best subjects for this type of research. I'd be happy to learn how black, white, and Latino men fare in a study like this. Someone should get on this STAT! Who's with me? I'll check the hands, you check each penis. Just take pics. Read below for the article.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finger length may have link to penis length: study
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/07/04/us-science-penis-fingers-idUSTRE7631GI20110704

(Reuters Life!) - Hands may say more about their owners than commonly thought, especially in the case of men.

Men whose index fingers are shorter than their ring fingers may have longer penises, according to a South Korean study published in the Asian Journal of Andrology.
"According to our data ... the shorter index (second) finger than ring (fourth) finger you have, the longer stretched penile length you have," wrote Tae Beom Kim at the urology department of Gachon University Gil Hospital in Incheon, South Korea, in reply to questions from Reuters.
Previous studies have shown strong evidence that prenatal testosterone may determine finger development as well as penile length, a relationship that Kim and his colleagues launched a study to focus on.

The study involved 144 men suffering from urological problems that did not affect the length of their penis, which was measured under anesthesia.
The measurements were later compared to the difference in length between their second and fourth fingers on the right hand. Previous studies have shown that the right hand may be more sensitive to the influence of testosterone.
The so-called "digit ratio" in this study refers to the length of the index finger divided by the length of the ring finger. The lower the ratio, the study suggests, the longer the penis may be.
The findings offered "circumstantial evidence that prenatal testosterone is responsible for both traits (penile length and digit formation,)" said Denise McQuade at Skidmore College in New York, who was not involved in the study.
"Digit ratio is non-invasive and easy to measure, yet may provide clues about an individual's prenatal history. Thus, combined with other information, digit ratio offers the potential for clinical usefulness," wrote McQuade in an email reply to questions from Reuters.
Female index and ring fingers tend to be about the same length, she added.
A study last year said that men with long index fingers have a lower risk of prostate cancer.
Researchers at Britain's Warwick University and the Institute of Cancer Researcher found that men whose index finger is longer than their ring finger were one-third less likely to develop the disease than men with the opposite pattern of finger length.

Shoe of the Day

So one of my good friends complained that the shoes I typically pick are expensive. What can I say? The more unique and beautiful the shoe, the more money they tend to cost. It is what it is. However, I've been searching for a cute silver summer sandal, and I found the Phoxy Embellished Wedge
from Payless Shoe Source. Remember when Payless had the wackest shoes? Remember when they fell apart after one wear? Now they only fall apart after five wears, but hey, you get what you pay for!  I love the embellishment and the simple wedge design.

Shoe of the Day

Fourth of July is almost here, so I thought I'd find some patriotic shoes to display here. Most red, white, and blue combinations look cheesy, but I found these Giuseppe Zanotti Women's Platform Pumps to be sexy and cute. Would I wear them? Probably not, being that I'm more of a flats/flip flops/sneaks kind of gal during the holiday. Unless I'm going to party at night, I really don't see the point in wearing these to a bar-b-que. It has a 1 inch platform, and 4 3/4 inch heel, which ups the hotness factor. I also love the navy blue patent leather, cork platform, and white leather ankle strap, which adds to these shoes unique and stylish look. These babies are cute to look at, but apparently, they are not in stock. I suppose that's all we can do anyway - just look at them.

Hot Menz - Jonathan Rhys Meyers

He's so hot, yet so unstable. Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Tudors, Bend It Like Beckham) attempted suicide Tuesday night, but luckily was found and rushed to the hospital in time. Dear Jonathan, please don't try taking your life again. You are way too hot to go out like that. *sigh*

Your Skin's Best Friend - Raw Sugar, Honey, Witch Hazel, and Vitamin E

Friends, I'd like to share with you a simple and easy way to get rid of blemishes and skin discolorations on your face. This is a great routine to do each night. If you don't see a difference within 2 weeks, then you can return to this blog to cuss me out. You don't need expensive treatments. All you need to do is visit your local natural foods and health store for this easy remedy. Here's what you need:

1) CLEANSE -  First, wash your face with a natural and moisturizing cleanser. My favorite is Burt's Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream. Also, African Black Soap is another good one.

2) EXFOLIATE - Next take about 1/4 cup of raw honey and 1/2 of raw sugar. Combine both ingredients into a small bowl. Then take the mixture and apply this natural scrub to your face. Gently rub it on in small circular motions being careful not to get it in your eyes, and try not to eat it :) Leave this mixture on for a minute or two, as long as you can stand it. Raw sugar contains glycolic acid which fights discoloration and helps to restore the skin's natural oils. Raw honey contains healing antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that protect the skin and stimulates new tissue growth.

3) CLARIFY - Next clarify with natural Witch Hazel astringent. You can find this at any local drugstore. Just make sure it's 100% witch hazel. Take a few cotton balls and using a liberal amount, wipe all around your face. This removes any excess grease and dirt, without drying the skin. Witch hazel is also known to reduce redness and sooths irritation of the skin.

4) MOISTURIZE - Finally, take pure Vitamin E oil and apply all over your face. The best brand out is Nature's Bounty Natural Vitamin E Oil, 30,000 IU. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and aids in skin cell regeneration. Even if you have oily skin, don't be afraid to apply this oil to your face. Allowing it to soak in overnight will remove the blemishes, the pimples, and any other skin problems. Trust me.

In the morning, wash your face, and use your favorite moisturizer (as long as it's natural!). I guarantee if you follow the above steps, you'll have beautiful, clear skin in no time!

Shoe of the Day

EAT ME WHOLE - That's the name of this shoe. These funky and ecclectic polka-dot, platform sandals will definitely add a new twist to your outfit. I'd rock these attention-grabbing, wacky sandal/boots. They're actually pretty cute to me. The only downside about this shoe is the price. I'm not sure if it's worth it for some fabric, but then again, I can't find a shoe like this anywhere else except Amazon.com. That's when you gotta look for coupon codes and free shipping. Yeah...I'm a sucker.

Hot Menz - Lenny Kravitz

Lenny can do no wrong in my eyes. The rocker was spotted in NYC recently with this cool retro phone attachment.

Shoe of the Day

Question - Who would actually rock these? I think they're cool to look at, and they look like a work of art. Would I actually wear them? Maybe on a dare. The crazy wedge heel is what make these shoes cool, but the rest of the design disappoints me. It seems as if the designer only focused on creating a unique heel, but gave up afterwards.

Your Hair Won't Grow? Here's Why.

I've been an advocate for natural hair and beauty products for quite some time. My friends are amazed at how healthy and thick my hair is. One of the main reasons for this is because I do not put synthetic products in my hair. Most of the products women use today carry harsh chemicals designed to keep your follicles in poor health, leaving clogged scalps and lackluster locs. Go grab any bottle of shampoo, no matter what brand, and I guarantee you'll find some of the ingredients listed will do more harm than good. You may think you're getting results, but in fact, you'll continue to buy the same products, and your hair will continue to remain stagnant in growth. Below is a list of ingredients to avoid when picking out hair products:

Mineral Oil and Petrolatum - Both of these products are widely used because it's super cheap. Both claim to condition and protect the hair, but instead, it does the complete opposite. It clogs the pores, preventing your scalp from getting the proper oxygen it needs to allow the hair follicles to grow. These ingredients are both extremely drying and toxic. Petrolatum is a crude oil used in plastics, solvents, and pesticides. So why would you want to use it in your hair? Mineral Oil is a liquid version of petrolatum and it widely debated on whether not it's ok to include in our hair and skin products. I don't understand the debate. It interferes with the absorption of vitamins and other nutrients needed for healthy hair and scalp. Avoid these ingredients at all cost.

Imidazolidinyl Urea and Diazolidinyl Urea - These ingredients are preservatives that act as a  formaldehyde releaser. Need I say more?

Methyl and Propyl and Butyl and Ethyl Paraben - Widely-used preservatives that have been proven by the Environmental Protection Agengy (EPA) to cause "estrogenic response on uterine tissues."  These are known to cause many allergic reactions and skin rashes. The estrogen levels in your body are increased significantly and the effects are known to stimulate breast cancer. Why are we putting this on our hair and scalp again?

Propylene Glycol - Supposedly used as a humectant, it breaks down the proteins and cellular tissue in our skin. Ummm...our hair and skin is made of proteins. How counter-productive. Don't use it!

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and Sodium Laureth Sulphate - These foaming agents are used in most of our shampoos and conditioners. There are claims that it's damaging to the immune system and they are extremely harsh on your hair, and rightfully so since it's also used as a degreaser for engines. These agents may cause hair loss, because the truth is that like Propylene Glycol, they break down the proteins in your hair, resulting in hair-loss. Also, studies show that it causes skin rashes and eye problems such as cataracts.

Why do comapanies use these harmful ingredients in our hair products? It's simple. They're cheap and easily produced in large quantities. Big businesses rarely care about the health of the general public. They care about the bottom line. If you want great results and healthy hair, look to more natural and holistic options. Look for hair products that don't contain the above products. Some of my favorites are Burt's Bees and Herbal Choice. Visit your local natural foods store to find out what products they have to offer, and HAPPY GROWING!

Shoe of the Day

I love its unique color and honestly, these shoes remind me of a teal pair that I have. Maybe that's why I made it shoe of the day. I'm partial to blue shades, but it's difficult to find a really versatile shoe in royal blue. I feel that I could wear this with a few outfits, but this shoe would be the star. If you don't like the color, they also have the same style in pink, black, and white. Oh and the price is right too!

Shoe of the Day

Beautiful, flat sandals are in! Why must we women kill our feet, legs, and back by attempting to walk in 4 inchers or more? I don't know why, but we do. That's why I love summer! The hot weather allows our toes to breathe a little more, stretch a little more, and get some much needed air. With that said, check out these sparkly little numbers found on www.shoefly.com. Here is an example of having the perfect night out, without killing your feet. The price is little up there at $99.00, but they look expensive, so to me, they are worth it!

Shoe of the Day

I missed yesterday's "Shoe of the Day" since I went to Six Flags. But to make up for it, check out this lovely addition to the blog.

Leifsdottir sandals

Leifsdottir sandals (see more platform wedge heels)

This neutral beauty is sophistocated, sexy, and different. At a price tag of $230, it's definitely not for the frugal and thrifty shoenista. However, this is a head-turner, and unique shoes are worth the splurge. Le sigh...

Oil Pulling

I'm always struggling between indulging myself in life's pleasures and being healthy. I mean, one can do both, right? Well, to me, it's usually one or the other. For life's pleasures generally involve food - the bad kind - the clogged artery, fattening, delicious kind.

Welp, I'm not getting any younger, so I know in my heart that it's time to grow up and exercise some discipline. Hell no, I'm not giving up all the pleasures that life has to offer, but I must be smarter about my decisions. What I do during this next decade of my life will affect the years that follow. I want to be one of those 70 year olds that look and feel 40 or 30. I want to remain disease-free and healthy, so now it's time. Along with increasing my water intake and eating a much cleaner diet, I'm trying something called "oil pulling."

Oil pulling is a unique Ayurvedic method of removing toxins from the body by literally pulling oil through the teeth and swishing around the mouth for 15-20 minutes. Supposedly, only Sesame or Sunflower oils are effective. It sounds strange to most of us, but the benefits mentioned are astounding. There was a study done in India where several respondents mentioned clearing of arthritis, allergies, asthma, diabetes, and even certain cancers. Not bad, huh? Don't believe me? Check out the information for yourself here:

http://www.oilpulling.com/users.htm

I'm trying this on myself and my 10-year old for a few months to see what happens. I'll make sure to post about it then. In the meantime, who's joining me?

Shoe of the Day

I'm in a pink-patent leather-strappy-platform-crazy heel type of mood. I think I'd actually rock these...

This shoe came out about 2 years ago and retailed at $69.95 at Bakers' website. Who knew??? Bakers used to be this cheap little teeny bopper type shoe store, and to know they have cute and fresh styles like this is eye-opening to say the least.

Will Bakers please bring this shoe back?

I just love these Betsey Johnson Pink Floral Espadrilles! They are perfect for summer and oh so girly! A Reintroduction of Sorts

Donuts n' Puddin' was slated to begin as a web show last year, but due to a series of unfortunate events, that is not going to happen (for now). However, there is no reason to igore this blog, and not put it to good use, right? I mean, there's so much to talk about in this world, and it simply doesn't make sense to wait for small things like cameras to get my point across.

With that said, Donuts n' Puddin' is moving on! The format will be the same - anything I feel like posting, I will post! You want new music from some of the hottest indie artists on the scene? You got it! You want fashion? Sure! You want politics, gossip, and current events? Why not! You want shoe of the day??? But of course!!!

If there's anything you'd like to see on this blog, send an email to donutsnpuddin@gmail.com or leave a comment here.
