Fiercely Fabulous: Zoe Saldana

 I think what impressed me most about Zoe was the following quote;

"When I go to the D.R., the press in Santo Domingo always asks, "¿Qué te consideras, dominicana o americana?" (What do you consider yourself, Dominican or American?) I don't understand it, and it's the same people asking the same question. So I say, time and time again, "Yo soy una mujer negra." ("I am a black woman.") [They go,] "Oh, no, tú eres trigueñita." ("Oh no, you are 'dark skinned'") I'm like, "No! Let's get it straight, yo soy una mujer negra." ("I am a black woman.")"

Even though she clearly isn't a "black woman" she understands that because of her dark skin it's what Hollywood will always see first in her when they consider her for a role. Its a shame, but its obviously made her who she is today.  And who is she you may ask well read on...

Zoë Yadira Saldana was born June 19, 1978 in Passaic NJ to a Puerto Rican mother and Dominican father. Her family relocated to the Dominican Republic when she was ten years old.

I found these bad boys on one of my favorite sites, Rue La La. This Lace Peep Toe Sandal from Josephine screams "I'm romantic, yet stylish and trendy." It's the perfect little show-stopper that enhances any outfit. Pair these with some skinny jeans and basic tee for a chic modern look, or you can rock these with your little black dress to amp up the sexy.

Shoe of the Day

It's still hot outside, and living in the concrete jungle, these sandals fit right in with my urban lifestyle. I was never a fan of spending a lot of money on sandals, because to me, they use less fabric and material. It never made sense to spend over $100 on something like that. I'd rather save my funds for a hot stiletto. Perhaps I shouldn't rationalize, for these sandals are totally me, and I don't know where else to find them for cheaper (Amazon maybe???). The braided straps and rope-like design provides the kind of detail that makes the price easier to swallow. Besides, green is my favorite color. What's a girl to do? (buy 'em!)

Retail: $125.00

Fiercely Fabulous: Tilda Swinton

Actress Tilda Swinton covers the August 2011 issue of W magazine, I first laid eyes on Tilda in the movie "Constantine" as the angel Gabriel. This woman is beyond breathtaking in my opinion, given lately I've had a thing visually for androgyny so I could be bias. I've always enjoyed her portrayal of every character she has ever taken on. In her interview she discusses why she chooses the role she's played in Hollywood.

Lynn Hirschberg: Your latest film, We Need to Talk About Kevin, in which you play the mother of a violent, disturbed boy, is one of the most emotionally unsettling movies I have ever seen. Halfway through the film, sometime around the moment when it became apparent that this kid was going to methodically destroy everything around him, I wanted to run. But I was glued to the screen—mostly because your character, who is troubled, quietly enraged, and often unsympathetic, was riveting. In films, mothers are mostly characterized by their love and affection for their children. It takes courage to challenge the sainted idea of maternal perfection. Did that scare you?

HOT MENZ - VAN JONES

I love a man who's not only sexy and handsome, but smart and passionate as well. Meet Van Jones. This activist and champion of "Green Living" is my future baby-daddy. I just hope yall know that. Then again, guys like him don't remain single. Van is probably married with children, living in some suburban neighborhood then travels to the ghetto each morning to be...well....active. POWER TO THE PEOPLE! All jokes aside, Van Jones is an impressive human being. Currently the Senior Fellow at the Center For American Progress, Van Jones served as a Green Jobs Advisor for President Obama, and he also authored a book titled, "The Green Collar Economy."

Van Jones - call me :)

Shoe of the Day

If you're not feeling good like I'm not feeling good today, but must still go out, then this is the sandal for you! (unless of course, you have a job where you cannot wear this type of sandal, then well...I guess you're on your own). For everyone else, this is the sandal for you! I love the blue and red shades found in the beading, which makes this darling flat so chic, yet subtle. The colors pop, and makes it easy to accessorize with a cute pair of shorts or a sweet dress. Whatever your mood, this cutey pie will certainly put you in a better one.
